Chapter 70
Katerina:
I looked at my children for a second, debating on how things were going to be from here.
The last thing that I was going to do was allow the bastard to take them away from me. But I knew for fact that he was going to test me with this. And I wasn’t going to allow him to do that.
I had to cut that string before he managed to get a hold of it.
“Mama?” Bianca called, snapping me out of my daze. I looked at my little one and couldn’t help but smile when I saw her walking toward me.
“Yes, baby?” I asked, looking at my little one. I wrapped my arm around her, pulling her to my lap.
“For you,” she said, handing me a lollipop from her pocket. I smiled and kissed her cheek, watching as she fiddled with it, wanting to open it.
“Thank you, baby.” I said, and she smiled. I took it from her, slowly opening it before I extended it to her. She shook her head.
“For you.” She said, repeating her same sentence before she hopped off my lap to go and play with her brother. Both had fruits around them, and each knew to take ONE lollipop from the sweets jar. It was one of their weekly ‘sweets‘ as their little reward.
“I think that it is time for us to reset our stars chart?” I asked, and both my children nodded in excitement. I needed to distract myself until HE called: Depending on my lawyer, no matter how much I trusted her, was not going to be wise. Nikolay would have her on pin point, and the last thing that I needed or wanted was to get out of this in ashes.
We walked toward their chart, and I smiled when I saw the ‘achievements‘ of their week. Each one of them had their stars, and I knew that they were more than proud that they got more stars this week. The older they became the more disciplined they were. It was something that I was proud of.
“The two of you have earned yourselves a new toy.” I said, calculating the weekly star. The last level was me taking them to an amusement park during the weekend.
“YES!” Both of them said, making me smile.
“Alright, we will go to the toy store during the weekend, and each one will get one toy. I am not going to put limits. Whatever toy you want, you can buy.” I said, watching as my baby’s smile brightened.
My phone rang, breaking the moment, and I got up to pick it up. I nodded at the maids to take care of the kids before checking the caller ID to see that it was the lawyer; Viktor Donavan…
“I didn’t expect you to call,” I said, entering the man’s office. He smiled and nodded, motioning for me to take a seat.
“And I have to admit, when I got your message, I didn’t expect it to be YOU.” He said, and I looked down at my feet. I sat on the chair, avoiding the man’s eyes, and he cleared his throat. “I doubt that you came here to stay quiet.”
“I want to file for a divorce.”
“Naturally, it is why you called.” He said, and I shook my head. This wasn’t how I expected things to go, but then again, I didn’t know who the man was or how he dealt with things. “I believe that you would have the typical reasons, your husband cheated on you, has a mistress, or…”
“He has never stopped cheating on me,” I said, stopping the man. He froze midsentence, frowning in confusion as he processed my words. “I almost lost my children when I found out about a scandal. One of his mistresses answered the phone when I called him. She’s his secretary. He works with her in the office, fucks her in that office, and is now staying in her home more than he would choose to stay at home with his children.”
“If you think that I am here to file this, like other women would, and then get back from it; you are wrong. I want this marriage to end, but I don’t want HIM to be the one to end it. And I do not want him to have it easy. Not after everything that I have suffered.” I said, and he took a breath as he listened to me.
He nodded at the file that I had in my hands, and I nodded, handing it to him.
“I have been seeing the two of you around on the media for a very long time. I have to admit, never once, not even for a second, did I think that you would come requesting for a divorce. And it never occurred to me that the man would be cheating on you. Not even once,” he said, and I looked down at my lap. I had nothing to explain. The number of times that he’s cheated were countless. Even our marriage started with his cheating with his ex.
“I wouldn’t have taken an action like this one if I wasn’t forced to. The man is now threatening to take my kids away from me. And I have had enough of the way that he’s been treating me. Time and time, and day and night, I cried, but I never bothered with the fact of caring about him.” I said, recalling his words of filing the divorce. “He had the audacity to threaten to take he kids, allowing me certain hours to see them, It’s been ten days since he’s come home since I told him that I would be filing for the divorce. And when the kids ask, I am forced to tell them that he is out the country. I know that he is in her house, and I know that he’s going to the office.”
“The man is just trying to punish me by not coming. He wants to see how far I’ll go.” I said, and Viktor nodded.
“Do
you have money on you? Don’t get me wrong but if you are going to want to take the kids, get
what he has…”

“I have my own businesses and investments. If it is about paying you, I stopped depending on his money a very long time ago.” I said, and Viktor nodded as a small smirk played on his lips.
“Then I am going to ask this question, because once this war starts, believe one of you is going to come out of it losing a lot more than you think.” He said, looking me dead in the eye. “How far are you willing to go with this? And are you willing to complete it until the end? Even if it does mean that he can take the kids temporarily. He can put you in positions where you are going to doubt yourself, and he can play everything that he has on you.”
“Men like him tend to lay every card that they have, and most of the time it ends up breaking the woman to the point where she stops.” He said, keeping his tone calm. “If I am going to go with this, I am going to need your answer.”
“I am willing to go till the very end.” I said, taking a deep breath as I stated my answer, firm with what I wanted. “No matter the result, I am going to fight this till the end.”
He smiled and nodded before putting the file down.
“Good, then here is how we are going to start…“.
