Jerome mentioned to her that his company was planning a company trip at Riverside Resort on that
Saturday,
It was such a coincidence that Celeste and her colleagues also chose the same place.
Mikayla pulled Celeste aside and said, “Be honest with me. Did you plan this with Jerome?”
Celeste looked at her in confusion. “Plan what?”
“Don’t play dumb with me.” Mikayla glared at Celeste. “When did you get bribed by Jerome?”
When they met at the hospital two days ago, Celeste didn’t mention anything about the company trip..
Then, she suddenly decided to ask Mikayla to join without telling her the specific location so that she wouldn’t get suspicious.
Seeing that she couldn’t hide it from Mikayla any longer, Celeste simply laughed.
“It’s not exactly bribery. A few colleagues from our department were really planning for a trip. When Jerome said they would come here, he extended the invitation to us too, so I didn’t hesitate.”
Miakyla rolled her eyes at Celeste. “Are you the kind of person who takes advantage of others?”
Celeste said, “This is a great deal, okay? Do you know much it costs to stay at the Riverside Resort? Besides, the resort has a natural hot spring that is riched with mineral content. It’s good for recuperation. I thought it’d help in your recovery. I swear I’m doing it for your sake.”
“Are you sure about that?” Mikayla asked.
“What’s there to be worried about?” Celeste pushed Mikayla forward. “Jerome isn’t some ferocious beast. He used to be your most beloved husband!”
Mikayla felt like cursing. “Celeste, it was all in the past. We’re going to divorce soon. What’s the point of doing this?”
“Even if you’re getting a divorce, there’s no need to avoid him, right?” Celeste held her hand. “E
both of you are still a married couple. Even if you don’t see him here, you’d still see him when you get
home, right?”
Although what she said made sense, Mikayla still felt that something was off.
“It’s also my fault for being soft–hearted. Connor persuaded me, and I agreed to it,” Celeste continued.
This was Connor’s idea?
“How did he persuade you?” Mikayla asked.
Celeste explained that Connor mentioned the incident at the bar that night, saying that Jerome disregarded his own safety to help them, and even injured his lower back.
He had suffered because of them to a certain extent.

“It’s okay. Your things have already been prepared.” Celeste handed her a room key. “This is your room. All your belongings are already inside.”
