Matilda quickly declined, “You go on with your business. I can manage to get home by myself.”
Seeing her persistence, Cynthia simply gave her, her business card and drove away.
No sooner had Cynthia stepped through the hospital’s main entrance than she overheard two nurses engaged in a discussion. “Did you hear that Mr. Collings has been dismissed? Apparently, he offended someone important.”
“I should have seen this coming. Someone was taken from the hospital. I heard they were kidnapped.”
Upon hearing their conversation, Cynthia wasn’t overly surprised.
Colton wouldn’t let Arthur stay any longer.
After recollected herself, Cynthia finally approached the door of the ward.
No sooner had she stepped through the door than Luna came over with a smile. “Mommy! Uncle Yoel brought over lots of toys and cake today. Can Luke and I have some?”
Surprised, Cynthia glanced around, only then realizing that there were quite a few extra things in the ward.
Braxton explained to Cynthia, “Mr. Zabielski arrived early this morning, but he didn’t stay long before he left in a hurry.”
Cynthia nodded thoughtfully.
Suddenly, Lukas waved at Cynthia. He had been feeling unwell for the past few days, and it was only today that he started to feel better.
Cynthia thought he was feeling unwell and wanted to be coddled. But to her surprise, as soon as she moved closer, Lukas placed a tiny beetle in the palm of her hand.
“What is this?” Cynthia curiously glanced at the beetle in her hand.
Lukas reached out and gently tapped the beetle’s head. A conversation echoed from within. “I’ve got it! Both kids are in my hands, and I won’t let them leave alive.”
Lynda’s voice echoed from the beetle, leaving Cynthia stunned. She turned to look at Lukas. “This is…”

“It’s a toy I made to play with. The day we were taken away by that villain, I saw her making a call to someone and discreetly recorded it,” Lukas said, somewhat embarrassed. “I’ve been feeling really down these past couple of days, so I forgot to give this to you…” With a worried look, Lukas turned to Cynthia. “Will I end up delaying the capture of the criminal?”
Only then did Cynthia snap out of her shock. “Of course not. The police will catch more criminals thanks to your recording.”
Lukas nodded in relief.
Cynthia carefully tucked the recording beetle into her bag, then shared the assortment of snacks with the children before watching them drift off into a deep sleep.
She quickly got into the car and began to attentively listen to the recording.
Fifteen minutes later, as the recording concluded, Cynthia’s expression had turned exceedingly grim.
In the recording, it seemed as though Lynda was conversing with someone. She had promised this person that she would certainly eliminate Cynthia’s children and wouldn’t let them leave the warehouse. She had also assured them that she would fulfill her promise, hoping that they would keep their word as well.
Upon hearing Lynda casually discussing various ways to harm her children, Cynthia held her breath in sheer disbelief.
It was as if every cell in her body was ignited by rage. She let out a heavy sigh and then drove toward the police station.
Inside the police station, Wallace was still interrogating Lynda. Even though several days had passed, Lynda had yet to confess. She continued to use her mental state as a means to evade the questioning.
‘ay I go in to see her?”
While this was indeed against the norm, considering Lynda’s unique circumstances, Wallace still agreed to it.
Cynthia handed the recording beetle to Wallace and asked softly,
Cynthia stepped into the interrogation room, and as expected, Lynda’s complexion subtly shifted. She stared intently at Cynthia and muttered under her breath, “I’ll make sure to wipe you all out…”
Cynthia briskly walked up to Lynda, giving her a cold, hard stare. Suddenly, she reached out and forcefully slapped her twice across the face.
Not just Lynda, even the police officers standing guard nearby were stunned. Whether it was intentional or unintentional, none of them stepped forward to stop Cynthia.
