Chapter 62
I couldn’t believe what Nathaniel said. At first I was sure that he was lying. It seemed impossible, absurd even but the way Luciano’s expression changed and I heard the confidence in the voice of Nathaniel, I was sure that he was not lying.
And as Luciano’s men dragged Nathaniel away, leaving me alone with my doubts and fears, my mind raced with questions, my heart heavy with apprehension. My body froze in my place, my vision fixed on the front wall, my brain empty.
“Dove,” Luciano’s voice, soft and gentle, called out to me from behind, but I remained frozen in place.
“Dove,” he repeated, this time taking hold of my arm and turning me around to face him, his touch tender and reassuring.
Blinking back tears, I looked up into his eyes, searching for answers in the depths of his gaze, but finding only uncertainty reflected back at me.
“What did he just say?” I finally managed to break the heavy silence that hung between us, my voice trembling with fear and confusion.
For a moment, Luciano remained silent, his expression unreadable as he searched for the right words to say. The silence stretched on, making me even more anxious by the every passing second.
“What did he just say, Luciano?” I grabbed his collar and tried to shake him but he didn’t budge.
My head was spinning and I was feeling utterly weak. Not having anything properly, the baby and the incidents that had just unfolded in front of my eyes had rendered me weak. My vision was getting heavy and black.
“Don’t mind him” Luciano came back, his hand coming up to rest on my shoulder.
But I couldn’t shake the feeling of unease that had settled in the pit of my stomach, nor could I ignore the nagging voice in the back of my mind urging me to confront the
truth.
“Don’t hide things from me anymore, Luciano. I beg you,” I pleaded, tears welling up in my eyes as I looked into his gaze, searching for answers.
But no response came from his side.

Chapter 62
“I know that there is something big you are hiding from me, I continued, my voice trembling with emotion. The day I received that call from the officer, ready to reveal everything about my parents‘ death, he suddenly stopped when he saw you with me. He looked terrified, as if you had ordered him to keep his mouth shut. And then, there was the man I saw leaving his house just before we arrived, the same man I have seen with you before.”
I took a deep breath before continuing
“I ignored it that time thinking that it must be some coincidence but now the confidence in Nathaniel’s voice and fear on your face has made it clear to me that there is something you are hiding.”
Luciano’s gaze flickered between mine, his expression unreadable as he struggled to find the right words to say. My head spun with a whirlwind of emotions, my vision blurring as I fought to keep myself grounded in the moment. I tried my best to stay put, I wanted to know everything.
“I will tell you everything once we are home” Luciano drew a deep breath “It seems like you are not fine”
“I am fine!” I retorted, my voice tinged with frustration as I took a step back, trying to maintain some semblance of control.
But the room seemed to tilt and spin around me, and I stumbled, my balance losing. Luciano’s hands reached out for me but before he could touch me, Clara held me.
“I want to know the truth, now!” I stated firmly
“Vanessa” Clara spoke from behind “please, a lot has already happened with you. Your whole body is shaking. Calm down please” she added.
“No, Clara.” I shook my head “He has hidden enough from me. I want to know everything right now!” My eyes searching for answer
“Please Dove, calm down, this way you will harm yourself” Luciano spoke softly. I could see small tears in his eyes.
“Then tell me the truth” I shouted and suddenly I felt a strong pain in my forehead. Everything became black, my hand reached out for my head and my eyes closed on their own.
“Dove!” Luciano shouted.
My legs gave up, Luciano came running to me when Clara couldn’t hold me. I wanted
to push away
collapsed.
The last thing I heard was Luciano asking me to keep my eyes open.
As I slowly opened my eyes, a gentle light pierced through the darkness, causing me to squint against its brightness. The sensation was strange, like waking from a deep slumber to find myself floating on a cloud.
Blinking several times, I struggled to adjust to the light, my surroundings slowly coming into focus. I found myself in Luciano’s room, surrounded comforting warmth.
The last words of Nathaniel started ringing in
my
head.
“Vanessa” I heard soft voice of Clara which grabbed my attention, she squeezed my hand at the same time “you are finally awake” a broad smile broke on her lips.
“Clara, how long have I been unconscious?” I asked her.
“One day” she told me..
I was out for one whole freaking day!
Drawing a deep breath, I tried to sit up but Clara stopped me.
“Have rest” she said
“I want to sit and have water”
Nodding her head, she helped me in sitting back and gave me a glass full of water.
“Clara, can I stay at your place for a few days? I promise I will find some other place to stay soon” I spoke after taking a few sips.
“Have you gone mad Vanessa? You can stay at my home as long as you want but for now I think you should give one chance to Luciano. You know he has spent the entire night beside
you. He was so worried when you fell unconscious. I never seen any man so madly in love with someone“.
Before Clara could finish her sentence, the sound of the door opening interrupted her. Luciano appeared, his eyes heavy with exhaustion but a bright smile lighting up his face when he saw me awake.

I immediately averted my gaze, feeling a surge of conflicting emotions coursing through me. I couldn’t bear to look at him, knowing that there were still unanswered questions lingering between us.
“Vanessa Clara once again squeezed my hand.
“Clara, ask him to tell me the truth or just leave me alone!” I blurted out, my frustration boiling over.
“If this is what you want, than I will leave you alone. But don’t punish yourself, Dove please” Luciano said..
“I want to know the truth which you don’t want to tell me,” I spat back, my gaze fixed on him with intensity.
“I will tell you everything but once when you are fine” he said.
“I am fine. I am completely fine. The fact that things are hidden from me is eating me from inside. If you want me to recover soon then just tell me the truth”
Luciano’s eyes flicked to Clara. Clara nodded her head, and stood up.
“I will be back really soon, Vanessa. Please take care of yourself”
I wanted to stop Clara but before I could say anything she was already out of the room.
Luciano moved towards me with determination shining in his eyes.
“I am ready to tell you everything” he said taking a seat in front of me “just tell me what you want to know”
“Why did Nathaniel say those things?” I asked bluntly, cutting straight to the heart of the
matter.
Somewhere I still wanted him to say that everything which Nathaniel said was a lie. It was yet another dirty plan of him to separate us. But his next words left me paralyzed and speechless.
“What he said was right.”
