Chapter 72
-MILLIE-
Once our lips collided, time stood still. Nothing mattered but the feel of his lips touching mine. It was like the first time all over again. All the questions and apprehensions were overpowered by the surge of emotion that crashed into me, knocking all the air out of my body. And Damian was the lifeline I needed to live.
Stunned, Damian didn’t respond at first. His green ones were as wide as saucers as I pulled away and stared up at him.
“I don’t ask for what I want,” I said, my chest rising and falling as I chased my breath. “I take it,
Damian.”
Realization crossed his face. This was the same scene that started it all, minus the countless glasses
of wine.
At the reunion, I was brokenhearted and looking for an escape. Right now, I am brokenhearted, but I am not seeking an escape; rather, I’m searching for a reason to keep holding on.
‘If I fall, will you catch me?’ I was scared of knowing the answer. The adrenaline in my system had already vanished, and my anxiety was back in full force.
‘Am I setting myself up for another heartbreak by kissing him?’
Sucking my lower lip between my teeth, my hold on Damian’s shirt loosened. I was again prepared to endure the consequences of following my heart’s desire.
Then Damian growled, gripping my hand, keeping them right where they were. His heart was pounding against his breastbone. I sucked in a breath when conviction blanketed Damian’s face.
“There’s my answer.
A
His eyelids turning heavy, he palmed the back of my head and s l a n t e d his mouth against mine.
Only one of us was sure I wouldn’t fall for him with just one date, and that wasn’t me. Mind-numbing electricity sparked where our bodies touched, disintegrating my resolve to dust. Rubbing my body against his, I pulled him towards mine. My hands f i s ti n g his shirt were the only barrier for our hearts. It had been so long since I allowed my feelings to slither out of the box that I shoved them away since Damian left, and as they weaved into my system, my heart drummed like mad. Energy coursed through my veins, thrumming over my skin in waves. My nipples hardened. My p u s y throbbed. I was an unstable ball of energy that might spontaneously combust. And when Damian fisted my hair, letting me know who was in charge, I nearly exploded right on the spot.

This. This was the man I fell in love with. Someone who’d take over and own me even when he knew I might slap him in the face for doing so. He was brave and headstrong, hiding his gentle side. underneath his tough and macho exterior.
Damian opened his mouth. His tongue darted out and swiped over my lips, urging me to give him more. I did. I opened my mouth and moaned when his tongue caressed mine.
His other hand slid on the small of my back. Letting go of his shirt, I relished the sensation of his solid body against mine. Throwing my arms around his neck, our hearts were finally beating against each other. The two drummed in the same tune so fast it was dizzying.
Burying my fingers through his soft hair, I pulled at them at the same time he fisted mine and angled my face to gain better access to my mouth.
He drank deep from my mouth. A man who finally found an oasis after trekking through a desert in summertime.
A shudder wracked my body as I climbed Damian like a tree. He palmed my a s s and rubbed me against the solid rod between his legs.
I kissed him to prove a point, but things got out of my control and quickly escalated into a wildfire that would leave me high and dry.
Dropping my hand from Damian’s neck, I slid it between us, pushing Damian away. It was a move to regain my self-control, but Damian was having none of that. He groaned, deepening our kiss and showing me who was in charge. I may be the one who initiated this kiss, but Damian was clearly behind the wheel now.
He bit my lower lip, pulled on it, and tilted my head to the side. With each stroke of his tongue, he made a m u f f l e d sound under his throat, protesting with each of my attempts to push away from
him.
“Damian…” I gasped. He finally relented in owning my mouth when we needed air.
He only allowed me to fill my lungs for five seconds, then claimed my mouth again. He started to rock my body against his, my a s s bearing his handprint from how tight he was holding me. “You taste so sweet, baby.”
His voice was thick with need, crippling my resolve. My resistance to his bewitching touch waned. I was ready to let his fire burn me, but Damian’s possessive kisses slowly turned to sweet and playful
strokes.
Cupping my face, he planted a soft kiss on my swollen lips and pressed his forehead against mine.
“I missed you,” he murmured.
I placed my hand on top of his and answered, “I miss you.”

He smiled and bit his lower lip. Delight sparkled in his eyes, and he kissed me again. “Get some rest,” he said and smirked, “before I change my mind.”
Laughter rumbled from my chest. “Good night, Damian.”
“Good night, baby.”

I walked away while I still had the strength to do so. One more minute under his heated gaze and I would raise my sodden panties like a white flag. I never knew a kiss could light my life on fire and change the course of my destination.
Whatever this was between us, I’m sure it was only starting, but I’m all for it if it means I will have my man back.
Before we went back to Summerfield Acre, we spent the better half of our morning walking along the beach in silence. Both of us were lost in our thoughts. I was freaking terrified to ask what this meant, so I settled in, holding his hand until the heat of the sun was bearable no more.
“I’ll be flying back to Roslin City today,” Damian informed me as we walked hand in hand towards the cabin.
My heart sank. Though what we had was still up in the air, I looked forward to spending more time
with him.
“Okay. Have a safe flight,” I murmured, climbing the porch stairs with a heavy heart.
I was only getting used to having him around, and reality once again put a distance between us.
“Hey.” Damian tugged me back to him. My body crashed into his front. He was ready to catch me, his hands wrapping around me. Pushing the hair qut of my face, his gaze roamed over my face, committing to memory every freckle and line. I know because I was doing the same to him.
“I’ll be back Friday night,” he murmured, trapping my chin between his thumb and forefinger.
Although I didn’t want it, my mind was already speeding a hundred miles per hour, and as always, Damian knew.
“I promise I won’t disappear again,” he said.
“You don’t have to promise me anything.” I hate feeling like this, unsure where I am in his life, but what could I do? It’s me that’s the problem, and not him. I am not sure when I’ll be able to fully trust his words.
Cupping my face with both hands, he gave me no choice but to look him in the eyes. “I know, but I’m still promising, and I plan on keeping it.” He pressed a kiss on my forehead, my nose, and my

lips. “Will you hate me if I update you on my
whereabouts every
every hour?”
I snorted. “Every hour?”
His brows crinkled. “When I’m not in a meeting or sleeping?”
I finally laughed, and the tension in my shoulders cased. “An update would be nice… whenever yo schedule allows.”
“Don’t overthink,” he poked my nose. “I’m yours, only yours.”
My lips pursed. “Stop being so cheesy,” I said and slapped his chest.
He chuckled and kissed me until we forgot what breathing meant. “I’ll see you on Friday, baby.”
I nodded and let my heart believe that he would stay true to his words. Because despite all the hesitations and what-ifs swirling in my head, I still love him and I’m not yet willing to give up. Something happened to Damian, and I intend to find out what it was.
