Sonia’s eyes widened as she looked at the old man. “Grandpa Elysian, what are you talking about?
The old man’s voice was deep. “Name your conditions. As long as they are reasonable. I will agree to them. Alex is still young and full of life. Enjoying life is normal. But once he goes overboard, the Elysian family will not agree.”
Sonia’s head was dizzy. She didn’t understand the old man’s meaning. She lowered her gaze and
murmured after a long time. “But I sincerely like Alex.”
“Sincerely?” The old man scoffed as he directly poured the tea she had served him into the rubbish can. “How many benefits can your sincerity bring to the Elysian family?” he asked coldly.
Sonia was shaken by the old man’s actions to the point of being unable to speak. Her lips
trembled and her eyes pooled with tears.
The old man looked at her and could not help but frown. His tone was not nice either. “Miss Summers, although I don’t know what methods you used to separate Alex from Candice, I regret to inform you that in my eyes, you don’t meet the standards to be Alex’s wife. If you’re smart enough, you can make demands now and then leave Alex.”
Sonia was completely shaken by the old man’s words. She seemed unable to speak, staring blankly at him.
It was only when the old man was helped up by the caretaker, leaning on a cane as he left, that
Sonia regained some composure.
She looked at the cup in the trash can, the tea thrown away by the old man, feeling extremely
embarrassed.
One million dollars? Ha. He casually gave gifts worth a million dollars to Candice. Why should he give her only one million to leave Alex?
She couldn’t help but recall the old man’s gentle expression when he looked at Candice,
filled with a deep meaning.

Candice was completely unaware of what happened at Aether. These days she was busy coordinating various business matters and occasionally accompanying Hanley and others to the site. The interior decoration at the site was nearing completion.
When she received the old man’s call, it was at night.
The moment he spoke, he started coughing. After coughing, he said weakly, “Candy, do you have
time tomorrow?”
The next day was Friday and Candice had nothing on.
“Do you have something going on?” she asked.
*I might not be accustomed to the climate here, and Lex and the others are busy. I’m shamelessly
asking if you have time to accompany me to the hospital.”
The old man’s cough seemed genuine, and Candice thought for a moment. “I’ll pick you up
tomorrow.”
The old man was indeed not feeling well. Not only had he lost his appetite lately, but he also couldn’t sleep at night, and his blood pressure had increased. When Candice arrived, the caretaker had already packed everything. Candice took them to Silverstone Hospital directly.
It was a private hospital with fewer people, and old Mr. Elysian had previously had his check–ups
done here.
Due to taking care of her grandfather, Candice was familiar with the hospital procedures, so she handled most of the paperwork and then took the old man for his examinations.
After the last examination, old Mr. Elysian sighed. “Candy, you are really attentive.”
“If you feel uncomfortable anywhere, just let me know,” Candice said.
The old man waved his hand.
As Candice was holding onto a pile of bills, she caught sight of someone. It was Xavier yet again. Candice’s expression became displeased. It seemed like she had been encountering Xavier more frequently lately.
Disliking his methods in handling things, she promptly supported old Mr. Elysian and went to
another area to avoid Xavier.
As soon as Candice left, Xavier took out his phone and made a call, speaking in a well–controlled

After hanging up, Sonia’s expression turned sickly. Beside her, Kayla was startled.
“What’s wrong with you?”
Sonia lowered her head. “Sorry, I feel a bit dizzy. Can you help me get Lex?”
Silverstone Hospital was efficient, but the test results still needed an hour to be ready.
Candice had initially planned to take Shawn out for a meal before coming back, but she unexpectedly encountered Sonia. And Alex behind her.
Old Mr. Elysian obviously had not expected them either, and upon seeing them his expression immediately darkened.
Sonia, feeling a bit afraid of him, paled, instinctively grabbing Alex’s arm. “Lex, why is old Mr. Elysian here?”
Alex’s gaze lowered. “Don’t you have a headache? Go get it checked first.”
“But I’m scared,” Sonia grabbed Alex’s arm, a genuine look of fear on her face. “You know my aunt just found out she has a vascular tumor. If this kind of illness is hereditary, what if I…
Alex paused. “It won’t happen. Don’t scare yourself.”
They happened to block the way in front of Candice and the old man, displaying an indifferent
attitude.
Candice was calm, but the old man spoke sternly. “Alex, are you deliberately trying to anger me?”
Alex’s hand was still being pulled by Sonia. Hearing the old man’s words, his tone did not change much. “Bruno told me this morning that you were coming for a check–up. Since she’s
accompanying you, you can rest assured.” When he mentioned “she,” he swept Candice a glance. his gaze calm.
Old Mr. Elysian tapped his cane. “Alex, listen to what you’re saying. Candy is such a good girl. If she doesn’t like you, you deserve it!”
Sonia’s expression stiffened momentarily at the old man’s words. The fact that Alex’s grandfather could be so biased towards Candice, even scolding his own grandson, surprised her. She raised her gaze to look at Candice, only to see her calmly looking at Alex. Even though nothing was said between them. Sonia felt that there seemed to be an unspoken barrier that isolated them from
others.
She pinched herself in the palm of her hand hard, and took a few stumbling steps backward. She collided with the door behind her, her face turning pale from the pain. Upon hearing the sound. both Alex and Candice immediately looked over.
Sonia fell down, mumbling unclearly. “Lex, I don’t feel good.”
Her complexion was truly terrible, even Candice couldn’t help but frown.
Alex went to her directly and scooped her up in his arms to carry her to the emergency room. He paused as he walked past his grandfather, his dark eyes narrowing as he hesitated. “I’ll explain to you later.”
Old Mr. Elysian looked at him carrying the pale–faced Sonia in his arms. Despite his displeased expression, he did not say anything.
Alex strode away with Sonia in his arms. Candice remained in place, her expression unchanged.
Instead, she looked at the old man’s displeased expression, thought about it and whispered to comfort him. “The doctor just said you shouldn’t get angry.”
The old man paused before looking at Candice. “I just feel aggrieved on your behalf.”
Candice lowered her gaze. “I don’t feel bad.”
The old man shook his head and sighed, his gaze containing indecipherable emotions. “Dear
child, Alex will regret this sooner or later.”
