It was clear as day that old Mr. Elysian meant Sonia.
Sonia bit her lip, her expression looking very unpleasant. She lowered her head, hiding her sorrowful expression.
Alex’s voice remained steady and deep. “She’s not feeling well. She almost fainted at the
company.”
Old Mr. Elysian, full of impatience, retorted, “That’s her own business. Or is it that she has no family or friends, not even money for a taxi?” His attitude was resolute. “Bruno, give a hundred to
Miss Summers, let her take a taxi home!”
The seemingly humiliating words made Sonia tremble. She dropped her hands to her sides,
clenching them tightly.
Alex frowned, and the darkness in his already dark eyes deepened. After a moment of silence, he
looked at Candice. “Do you need me to take you home?”
This question seemed like an inquiry, but according to Candice’s understanding of Alex, if he
really wanted to take her home, he would not have asked in such a way. It was just a way to make her reject him to save him the trouble.
As it happened, she didn’t want to have to keep watching Sonia’s performance. She took the medicine and gave it to Bruno. “Grandpa’s medicine is all here. The old man frowned slightly, wanting to say something to keep her there, but when he saw the
indifference on Candice’s face, he swallowed his words. Until Candice left.
The moment she was gone, Shawn rounded on Alex, glaring at him angrily. “You bastard, look at the mess you’ve caused!”
Alex took the medicine from Bruno. “Where’s Grandpa’s medical report?”
Completely ignored, Sonia did not dare to approach, fearing the old man’s mockery, yet unwilling to be ignored like this. She gently pulled Alex’s clothes and spoke softly. “Lex, I’m going for a CT scan. You stay here with Grandpa.”
Alex’s face remained cold and stern. He nodded slightly without saying a word.

The old man’s face darkened. “What do you mean?”
Alex was a little frustrated. “Solomon will return to Solaris in a couple of days, and it will be
challenging to schedule another meeting afterward.”
The timing of Sonia’s fainting at the company had been frustrating. Alex had arranged to meet Solomon to discuss cooperation, and Aether had plans to expand to Solaris, so connecting with
the Quimby family would be advantageous.

activities.

direction and left the hospital
Candice was leaving the hospital and had just finished a call with Jessica. Jessica had a few additional requests and she noted down each of them. As she hung up the phone and prepared to
leave, she noticed Sonia standing nearby.
Candice paused but decided to continue walking, pretending not to see her..
Sonia called out. “Candice.”
Candice halted. “Is anything the matter?”
Sonia’s complexion did look unusually pale, especially under the sunlight. She smiled and said, Candice, it seems that Alex’s grandfather really likes you.”
Candice looked at her, waiting for her to continue.
“To be honest, I’m quite envious.”
“What exactly are you trying to say?” Candice asked.
Sonia disliked seeing Candice’s calm demeanor. The more composed Candice appeared, the more Sonia felt like a clown. Gritting her teeth, Sonia tried to maintain the smile on her face. Candice, do you want to make a bet? If I faint right now in front of you, can you guess how Alex
will react?”
Candice raised an eyebrow at the proposition. “A rather meaningless bet.”
Sonia’s smile froze, and Candice turned around to leave.
Unable to contain her frustration any longer, Sonia called after her. “Candice, do you think that with Alex’s grandfather backing you up, Alex will like you? He still despises you just the same. Who do you think you are? You’re nothing but someone he’s tired of playing with, that’s all.” Sonia let out the words in a harsh torrent. It was as if they had been building up inside her for a long time, and only now were finally being unleashed.
Candice stopped again and turned to look at Sonia with a cold gaze. “What are you saying?”
“Is what I said wrong? Even if Alex’s entire family likes you, he still won’t change his feelings. He’s
long been disgusted with you.”
Sonia’s mind was replaying the old man’s humiliation of her on a loop. She was suppressing her grievance and hatred about it, but she was unable to fully hold back her anger, venting it onto Candice. It was all Candice’s fault. If not for Candice, she would not have been humiliated by Alex’s grandfather like that-
Though Candice remained expressionless, her gaze towards Sonia was chilling. Being slightly taller than Sonia, when Candice’s cold eyes looked down at her, she exuded an overwhelming sense of oppression.
Sonia trembled.
Candice’s tone was sarcastic. “Many times, I’ve thought you couldn’t be any more stupid, but your always manage to surpass my expectations. Or is it that your foolishness is a result of being influenced by Xavier?” Candice casually brought up Xavier.
Sonia’s heart skipped a beat. She looked at Candice with a hint of anxiety.
Looking down at her, Candice sneered. “You’re truly a fool. Why not go and talk to Alex about your recent closeness with Xavier? See how he reacts.”
Sonia’s heart raced. How did Candice know about her and Xavier? If she really told Alex-
Candice left. Sonia stood in place for a while before lifting her head to gaze in the direction she had gone.
Her thoughts were in chaos, but one clear idea emerged.
She could not let Candice tell Alex about Xavier.
Even more so, she could not let Candice have an easy time.
