After speaking, she handed I the child over to Christy and made an excuse to leave.
Once back home, she rummaged through her cupboard and pulled out a bag of herbal tea. She didn’t waste a moment before finding an acquaintance to get it tested.
Staring at the lab report, with its cold, hard numbers, she completely fell apart. Their child hadn’t died from strenuous activity. It was because of these herbs. And these herbs were prescribed by lan, with her accompanying him to get them.
It was only now that she realized what the doctor had meant when he said her overuse of morning–after pills had caused her ovaries to age prematurely, making conception difficult. She had thought using them once or twice a month was excessive, but now she knew that occasional use of emergency contraception wouldn’t cause such damage

Clara held her phone, tears glistening in her eyes as she gazed up at the starry sky.

She knew that stepping forward meant there was no turning back. That step would sever any remaining ties with lan.
Anders was excitedly spinning in place, and his speech was a bit stuttered. “Clara, just wait. I won’t let you miss out on anything. I promise you that.” With that, he hung up and rushed to share the joyous news with his entire family. The house was soon filled with merriment.

“Mr. Hayes, I’ve just heard that Attorney Anders has booked the Grand Mansion Banquet Hall for tonight. Seems like he’s planning something big,”

His icy gaze turned to Dawson, “Has she arrived?”
“She has, but she hasn’t agreed to our proposal yet.”

Clara had just finished work when Sasha called.
“Clara, aren’t we bridesmaids next week? I’ve picked out the dresses. Come try yours on, I’ll send you the address.”
Clara agreed cheerfully and drove straight to the dress shop. It wasn’t until she tried on the dress that she sensed something was amiss. “Sasha, are you sure this is a bridesmaid dress? Aren’t we going to overshadow the bride with these gowns?”
Sasha teased with a laugh, “With your looks, you could outshine anyone even in a burlap sack. Come on, it’s a crime not to show off a dress this gorgeous.”
Before Clara could react, Sasha pulled her into the car. When they arrived and pushed open the doors, Clara was stunned by the scene before her.
