Lizetta’s steps ground to a halt, the venom in Evelina’s words sending a sharp pang through her heart.
Seeing her freeze, Evelina curled up her lips in smug satisfaction.
In this world, Lizetta was the last person deserving of happiness!
A fake heiress, stealing her carefree childhood of six years, and then living off the old affections her grandmother had for the Dashiell family, basking in their wealth and status for so many years.

“Evelina, do you really think your words carry any weight with me now? My husband’s been keeping another woman? For sixteen years, using me as a stand–in? You must’ve read too many of those trashy novels, inventing such ludicrous tales!”
Lizetta laughed mockingly, clearly not believing a word Evelina said.
This wasn’t the reaction Evelina wanted, and she looked frantic.
“It’s true! I’m not lying this time! Echo Ridge Villa is just around the corner. If you don’t believe me, go see for yourself!”
Echo Ridge Villa was one of the wedding homes Fiona, from the vast Dashiell real estate, had picked out when Lizetta and Remington got married.
Fiona had taken Lizetta around, letting her choose a property to redecorate and set up as her wedding home.
Eventually, Lizetta chose both Echo Ridge Villa and Oakridge Heights because Echo Ridge Villa was closer to the Dashiell family’s private hospital.
It was convenient for her to visit Thaddeus, while Oakridge Heights was closer to the Starlight Group.
Indecisive, Fiona waved her hand, allowing her to redecorate both before deciding.
In the end, Lizetta was fond of both, but she chose Oakridge Heights because she couldn’t bear for Remington to spend an extra few minutes commuting every day.
But Echo Ridge Villa was also considered another wedding home, after all, Lizetta had decorated it bit by bit herself.
Lizetta refused to believe that Remington would keep some woman there.
Even if he were to keep someone, Echo Ridge would not be the place.
“No matter what you say, I won’t believe it anymore. Evelina, my husband and I are expecting a baby now. Our marriage will only get stronger, not easily shaken by such outrageous stories you concoct.”

Lizetta approached Evelina, gently stroking her hair. “Evelina, being unable to bear the happiness of others is a serious psychological issue. I genuinely recommend you see a therapist. And look after yourself more. Your hair’s all messy and lacks nutrition, probably because you’re too busy scheming and your body can’t keep up. As your sister, it really pains me.”
Lizetta’s face was full of sympathetic concern, a familiarity that Evelina knew all too well.
Lizetta was clearly mocking her!
Evelina was livid, stepping back hastily to fix her hair, glaring at Lizetta through gritted teeth.
“Lizetta, you’ll regret not believing me!”
With that, she turned and entered the elevator.
As the elevator doors closed, Evelina leaned closer to her reflection inside.
Maybe Lizetta’s words had gotten to her, but seeing herself in the reflective surface wearing baggy, shapeless hospital scrubs, her face swollen and bruised without makeup, she looked utterly worn out and
dim.
Thinking back on how radiant Lizetta looked, dressed brightly and full of life, Evelina kicked and screamed in frustration inside the elevator.
