If they couldn’t be husband and wife, they could be friends. What if they couldn’t be
friends?
Pearl’s question stumped Lucas.
Lucas thought hard for a while. Although he had been in many relationships, he had never been married and had never experienced the hardships of marriage. He really could not think of a conclusion, so he simply threw the question to Marc. “What do you think?”
Marc looked deeply at Pearl. Under her mocking smile, Marc seemed to see the sadness and devastation hidden below.
Marc remembered that on the day he mentioned the divorce to Pearl, she was sad. She was so sad that she even asked him humbly, “Could we not divorce?”

behind Pearl.
Pearl had just walked out of the door when someone grabbed her other wrist.
Marc chased after Pearl and could not help but ask, “You’re the daughter of the Woolery

family. You’re not after fame or profit. Why did you come to my side and marry me when I was almost paralyzed in a car accident? What exactly are you after?”
Marc’s voice was neither loud nor soft, but it was like a huge rock had been thrown into the lake, stirring up a storm in the CEO’s office.
When Samuel took the elevator over, he happened to hear this sentence. His pupils
constricted too.
The entire CEO’s office was silent. Everyone’s faces were filled with shock..
What did Marc say?
Pearl had actually gotten married before?
This meant that this man was Pearl’s ex–husband!
Pearl did not want to talk to Marc, but he insisted on getting to the bottom of it.
Pearl lowered her gaze to look at Marc holding her hand, then raised her eyes to lock onto his. He had an unwavering determination in his eyes, making her find the situation truly laughable and absurd, as if she couldn’t fathom the reason behind it.
Pearl let go of Lucas’s hand and faced Marc coldly. “Let go.”
Marc had never liked to have intimate contact with women, but he wanted an answer
today. He was afraid that if he let go, Pearl would run away again and avoid him. Not only did Marc not let go, but he also tightened her grip on her wrist.
“If you tell me the answer, I’ll let go.”
Pearl’s chest was suffocated as she glared at Marc. This person had always been quite self–respecting. How did he become so persistent and intrusive now?
Pearl wanted to break free, but Marc held her tightly.
An unnamed anger welled up in Pearl. Pearl looked Marc straight in the eye. “What answer do you want to hear?”

“Do you want to hear how much I love you? Do you want to hear that I’ve had a crush on you for many years, which is why I went to your side to take care of you when you were about to be paralyzed from a car accident? Lucas muttered an annoying comment and then scurried to catch up, saying, “Pearl, wait for me!”
They parted on bad terms again.
Marc slowly tightened his hands by his side. He pursed his lips tightly as he watched. Pearl’s cold and thin figure leave.
It was hard to pinpoint exactly when it started, but Pearl had stopped smiling in front of Marc a long time ago. And it was equally challenging to determine when she began presenting him with nothing but cold, distant silhouettes.
Pearl still wouldn’t give Marc the answer he wanted.
“Mr. Males, let’s go.” Thomas couldn’t stand it anymore. Marc was really too pitiful!

Marc was about to leave when Samuel came up to him.
“Mr. Males, I’m Samuel Goodman, the Vice President of Woolery Group. Is it convenient for us to talk?”
