14 Impromptu visit to the Music Lake Park
The nurse, caught off guard by the sudden eruption of drama in the room, found themselves inadvertently trapped in the midst of this wealthy family’s turmoil. As the heated exchange unfolded, they had no opportunity to leave, and thus, were confined to bearing witness to the escalating tension.
“What do we do?” One of them inquired but no one replied. The intensity of the confrontation left them trembling, unsure of how to navigate this unexpected turn of events.
As the argument flared, a sense of unease crept over them. They harbored knowledge of the family’s intricacies, their secrets and rifts laid bare in that charged atmosphere. The fear of being
inadvertently embroiled in the family’s affairs gripped them.
Would their mere presence in that room lead to repercussions? Would their awareness of the family’s private matters lead to some sort of ominous silence imposed upon them? These unspoken questions loomed, leaving them unsettled and apprehensive about the potential consequences of their unwitting involvement in the family’s unfolding drama.
“Let me go! I’m not done yet!” Brandy’s voice crackled with frustration, her eyes blazing with pent- up fury.
Albert kept her grip firm yet gentle. “We can’t do this here. Come on, let’s step outside for a moment, “he reasoned, trying to steer Brandy away from the growing attention of bystanders.
The tension in the air was visible, the nurses‘ curious glances adding pressure to an already tense situation. “Just breathe, Brandy. Let’s talk this out calmly,” Albert persisted, guiding her toward
the exit, determined to defuse the escalating conflict but Brandy was just fixed at saying her piece.
“You can do nothing but clean after our grandmother, acting like a maid. Aren’t tired, do you not get ashamed of leaving off people? Whether Emily agrees or not I will be bringing in professor Atlas in here in no time t[o treat grandma. You on the other hand, you have nothing to help out with other
than being the family destitute.
“Everything you have now is something you didn’t have before. You should be honored not that you’d be uttering words like that.” Albert said
Leslie’s dedication to entering medical school was eclipsed by Brandy’s influence. Her accomplishments seemed dwarfed in comparison.
The constant talk around her felt like an attempt at manipulation, as if they aimed to control and sway her thoughts once more. The mere idea repulsed Leslie, stirring defiance within her.
Leslie’s response held defiance. “I had no choice back then. I appreciated your kindness, but I’ve repaid my debt. Brandy overshadowed all I achieved, Brandy stole my achievements, got into that prestigious school in my place and all I could do was watch and you still expect me to be at your feet at all time” she stated firmly, her resolve unwavering.
Albert, trying to manipulate Leslie as always, interjected with a tone of concern. “Leslie, please consider this carefully. Once you leave, you might lose everything. You’ll be nothing once you leave
the family,” he cautioned, her words weighted with an unspoken warning,
Leslie’s gaze hardened, but then again she smiled and replied, “I won’t be defined by this family,” she asserted, the fire in her eyes reflecting her fierce independence, “You’re right if it had been you were truly my savior. I would now say the same to you, Brandy,” She concluded, turning to face brandy who was by the door. If Brandy left the family, she would be nothing as well.
“Leslie, it’s crucial we maintain the Anderson family’s reputation and look after Grandma Melissa, We’ll do our utmost to reach Professor Atlas,” Albert emphasized.
She disregarded Brandy’s stern looks and Albert’s word, maintaining, a calm act, “It’s getting late. You both should head out,” she suggested with a gentle smile, subtly hinting at their departure.
Albert and Brandy exchanged glances, their discomfort evident. Leslie’s critique had left them feeling unwelcome. They hadn’t wanted to be at the hospital in the first place, their reluctance palpable from the beginning.
Sensing the tension and feeling frustration, Albert gestured to Brandy. “Let’s go,” she muttered quietly, her voice tinged with a hint of annoyance.
Brandy nodded in agreement, the lingering discomfort pushing her towards the exit. “Fine, we’re leaving,” she replied curtly, her voice carrying a trace of lingering irritation.
As they moved away from the prying eyes, the fervor of the moment lessened slightly. Brandy’s anger simmered but didn’t boil over, contained by Albert’s efforts to maintain a semblance of peace.
Immediately they exited the room, Leslie exhaled deeply, the tension dissipating. She took a seat by Melissa’s bedside, her fingers entwining with Melissa’s, a silent prayer for her recovery.
The room settled into a quiet calmness, the echoes of the departing voices fading away. She remained steadfast by Melissa’s side, a beacon of hope in the subdued atmosphere, her only wish for Melissa’s

As they left the hospital, the kids clamored excitedly about visiting the park. Their sudden agreement struck Flora as suspicious, observing their uncommon unity.
“When did you both decide on the same place? It’s rare for you two to agree on something,” Flora remarked, a hint of suspicion creeping into her tone.
Kendra and Kayden exchanged glances, a shared excitement evident in their eyes.
“We just thought it’d be nice to hang out together,” Kendra offered, trying to deflect any suspicion, her voice sounding a tad too rehearsed.
Kayden chimed in, a bit too eager. “Yeah, it’s been a while since we went together,” he added, attempting to sound nonchalant.
Flora, puzzled by her children’s persistent insistence on going to the park, suggested they postpone the visit to the following weekend. However, Kendra and Kayden swiftly opposed the idea, much to
her surprise. Their immediate rejection heightened her suspicions; something didn’t add up.
“Maybe next weekend would be better,” Flora proposed, eyeing them curiously.

Kendra and Kayden exchanged a quick glance, their agreement instantaneous, “No, Mom, it has to be now,” Rendra insisted, her tone almost urgent.
Flora’s suspicion grew, her maternal instincts tingling with concern. “Is something going on? Have you both gotten into trouble?” she questioned, hoping for a straightforward answer.
The twins shook their heads vehemently. “No, Mom, it’s nothing like that. We just really want to go to that park,” Kayden reassured, a forced smile masking his unease.
Flora couldn’t shake off the feeling that there was more to their insistence than a simple desire to visit the park. Their persistent push for an immediate trip raised red flags in her mind.
“But why this park in particular? Is there something special about it?” she prodded, trying to unearth the reason behind their sudden insistence.
The twins exchanged another glance, their expressions unreadable. “It’s just a nice park, Mom. We haven’t gone on a walk since we got here,” Kendra explained, her attempt at nonchalance failing to convince Flora.
“It really hurts when you’re so suspicious, Mom,” Kendra spoke, her voice tinged with disappointment. “Kayden and I simply wanted to go out for a walk. The park happens to be close by. Why would you think we were causing trouble? But if we were, we wouldn’t tell you, of course,” she added, her gaze fixed on Flora, her expression serious.
“I’m sorry, sweetheart. I didn’t mean to doubt you,” Flora replied, her voice softening with a hint of regret. “It’s just that you and Kayden seemed so eager, and I wanted to make sure everything was okay.”
“Okay, I’ll take you to see this park you’ve been fixated on.”
Music Lake Park in Billy City boasted a century–old history, but with reconstruction looming, its
visitors had dwindled.
Flora’s last visit had been six years prior, never anticipating a return, let alone with her two children.
Emotions swirled within her as she glanced down to find Kendra and Kayden exchanging disappointed looks when they got there.
“What’s on your mind?” Flora interrupted with a smile.
It was evident the pair hadn’t delved into the park’s details but anticipated a fun outing, only to face a stark reality.
“This place is awful. If I’d known, we wouldn’t have come here, Mom.”
