1 couldn’t accept being defeated by a young college girl who had just entered the working world and had
nothing to her name.
I refused to admit defeat so readily, especially after loving Gordon for so long and finding no place for
myself in his heart.

Lost in my thoughts, we pulled up to the hospital where Hector had driven us.
Selena said she was exhausted. She had an early morning meeting to attend the next day, so she asked
him to stay with me while she took a taxi back to rest.
Hector and 1 entered the hospital together. By then, Sabrina’s treatment was completed, and she had been moved to a ward.
Yvonne had already filled me in on the situation.
It turns out, despite Sabrina being stabbed, it was with a dull steak knife, resulting in only a shallow wound that missed any vital organs.
So, her condition wasn’t severe. She merely required some bandaging at the hospital.
As I walked into the ward with Hector, I saw Sabrina half–sitting on the bed, fully awake. Gordon never left her side, and a basket of fresh fruit was on the table nearby.
“How are you?” I asked as I approached.
“I’m fine, Mrs. Holmes. The wound isn’t deep, and the doctor said a week’s rest should do it,” Sabrina replied cheerfully.
She lifted her head, offering a sweet smile in my direction, and addressed me politely.
Despite her warm demeanor, I found it difficult to discern any indication of her feelings toward Gordon.
“Oh, that’s great,” I responded politely.
Gordon suddenly asked her, “Hmm, is your name Sabrina? Why does that name sound familiar?”
He remained rigidly straight, not even turning to look at me when I put my hand on his shoulder. His gaze was fixed on Sabrina the entire time.
The allure of his sweetheart was indeed deadly.

“Mr. Holmes, do you know why I rushed to save you regardless of the consequences that night?”

“Why?” he asked.

“Do you remember your father’s driver, Marcus Baker?”

Sabrina smiled and nodded.
“Yes, I am Marcus‘ daughter, Sabrina Baker.
“Luke, the driver who works for you, is my step–brother.
“Mr. Holmes, I’m deeply thankful to your family for sponsoring me.
“Without your support, I fear I wouldn’t have been able to complete my studies or pursue my passion for playing the piano.
“Your family was my benefactor, and after graduating, I deliberately chose to apply to Holmes Group.”
She spoke to him in one breath.
Despite her injuries, her lips retained a faint pallor, and weariness clung to her features.
