I felt like I was on the verge of collapsing. Hector almost had to drag me out of the hospital.
The moment he dragged me into his car, my emotions rose abruptly, and I could no longer bear it. I began sobbing bitterly in the back seat of his car.
Hector swiftly handed me a tissue. Then, he started the engine and drove me away from that hospital as fast as he could until we reached Sobrough City’s beaches.
“Hector, was I a complete embarrassment today?”
I leaned back against the seat. I felt cold and spent after venting everything.
“No. You were courageous today. You should have done this long ago. You should bid goodbye to those who don’t care about you and be yourself.”
Hector turned to look at me. His eyes were shining as if there were stars in them, and he seemed extra sincere.
It was strange. In the past, I found him annoying whenever I saw him, but at that moment, I suddenly found him rather endearing.
“I looked insane just now, didn’t I?”
I couldn’t help asking as I thought about how I had wholly expressed my emotions at the hospital.
“No, I think that you looked like a female warrior. No one else in Sobrough City would have dared to scream at Gordon like that. To tell you the truth, I wouldn’t dare to either!”
He laughed, revealing his white, flawless teeth. The energy he exuded felt like warm sunshine after a shower of rain. It made me feel warm.
I knew that he was trying his best to comfort me and give me warmth.
I laughed.
“I think you would! You’ve challenged Gordon several times lately.”
“That’s true. He’s annoyed me for a long time. How could he treat a woman who loved him that way? Don’t worry. People like him will face their karma for sure!” Hector said.
His tone made me wonder if someone had switched places with him. Was he really still Gordon’s best friend?
After all, in my past life, Hector had always taken Gordon’s side. He had often spoken

“Hector, you never used to treat me this way. Why do I feel like you’re a different person?”
Hector relaxed when he saw me smile. He opened the car door and got down, then pulled open the car door to the back seat. He gestured for me to step out and get a breath of fresh air.
“Taylor, I didn’t know you well in the past, so I didn’t see things from your perspective. At the time, I simply couldn’t understand why you would debase yourself as a woman so much. Why did you humble yourself to make a man happy?
“I hate evil deeds, and I’m not a fan of weak people. To tell you the truth, I used to look down on you. I felt that if I were in your shoes, I would have moved on ages ago. I wouldn’t have humbled myself to that extent.”
We walked along the embankment as he spoke.
This was the first time Hector had opened up to me to say these things. I wasn’t surprised to hear it because I knew that it was genuinely how he once felt.
“What about now? Why did you change your outlook?”
“Because recently, I realized that you’ve changed. You’re not like you used to be, and your life doesn’t revolve around Gordon anymore. You aren’t as weak as you were before, either. You never tried to obtain anything for yourself.
“Honestly, neither Nora nor Sabrina or any of those women can compare to you in terms of your abilities. I admire how you’re using your trump card to challenge Gordon. That is the kind of woman that has charisma.
“Taylor, remember what I say. Never lose yourself for anyone’s sake. You will attract people if you are strong and confident. Do you understand?” Hector said solemnly.
He patted my shoulder.
I hadn’t expected that Hector, who always seemed like a cynic who treated life as a game, could be so perceptive.
“Hector, how have I never noticed how educated you are?”
