Chapter 6 She Is Not a Pig, but Our Esteemed Guest

“How could you sleep till noon in a stranger’s house? Are you a pig?” Howard quickly smoothed things over. “Miss Morgan just arrived at the Pierce Residence yesterday morning. She took a bus and a plane to get here. So, she should sleep more to replenish herself.” Christine fluttered her almond-shaped eyes, keenly aware of Yanice’s hostility toward her. However, she merely smiled sweetly. “Who taught you to treat a guest with this attitude?” “You aren’t worthy to be a guest of the Pierce Family. My grandmother kept saying that you came from a family of fortune tellers or something. I couldn’t remember what she said… But in this modern-day era, they are nothing but liars! Even if my grandmother believes it, you won’t be able to fool me!” She glared at her with her crystal-clear eyes, revealing her hostility. “You better not be making any moves on my cousin!” Christine stretched lazily and picked up a bun. Then, she took a small bite and began chewing it, ignoring her provocation. “I don’t care about your opinion. It’s fine as long as your grandmother believes in it.” She was about to have a good look at the geomancy of the Pierce Residence today. As such, she was not in the mood to quarrel with this little girl. She got up and left after finishing her breakfast. “You—” Yanice was pissed and ready to run after her when she was stopped by Howard. “Miss Morgan is an esteemed guest of Old Mrs. Pierce. If your actions are to reach her ears, she will be furious.” Hearing the butler’s words, she had no choice but to endure it no matter how unwilling she was. Following that, she stomped her foot and left. Inside her bedroom, she quickly picked up her phone and called somebody. The moment the line went through, a woman’s gentle voice rang. “Yan, what’s the matter?” Melissa Lange was the daughter of the Lange Family, who were close family friends of the Pierces. She was also the only person that Yanice recognized as her sister-in-law. Yanice sounded particularly anxious as she blurted, “Mel! That country bumpkin has arrived at the Pierce Residence. My grandmother likes her and places great importance on her. What should we do?” The most important thing is––she isn’t ugly! Melissa paused before she said, “Yan, if Madam Pierce is happy, we should be happy for her.” Yanice was touched. As expected of her sister-in-law, she always put her grandmother’s feelings first. However, she did not like that village girl! “Grandma isn’t feeling well. Why don’t you come and visit her tomorrow?” “Alright.” “See you then.” After hanging up the phone, Yanice felt better after giving Melissa the latest updates. She truly despised that country bumpkin! On the other side, the panoramic view of Hollander danced across the windows of the Lange Family’s estate, where Melissa was sitting in front of the piano. She placed her phone down in a cold manner and rubbed her chest, bearing an uneasy feeling about all this. Her maid brought some hot water and said, “Miss Lange, you don’t have to worry about anything. She’s merely a country bumpkin. How could she dream of replacing you?” Melissa cocked her head to the side as her gaze became unfathomable. “How could a country bumpkin be treated as an esteemed guest by Madam Pierce?” Judging by Yanice’s flustered tone earlier, she felt a certain sense of threat and foreboding, even before meeting the other party. Her maid was stunned. “Uhm…” “Get prepared. I’ll head to the Pierce Residence tomorrow morning.” Her maid lowered her head respectfully and replied, “Yes, Miss Lange.” On her second day at the residence, Christine wandered around the magnificent gardens of the Pierce Residence. The art of geomancy was not a trivial matter. So, she had to investigate this matter carefully. However, Yanice noticed the scene. The sight of her casual stroll gave her the impression that she was a country bumpkin who had never seen the world. Why was she interested to look or even touch a potted plant that was placed casually by the stairs? On the other hand, Christine could not be bothered by Yannis’ eccentric behavior and merely frowned. She had entered almost all the rooms in the estate today, yet she could not find any problems even as she was preparing for bed. Wait— This isn’t right! She had not entered Sidney’s room yet. That was because the butler told her that he was a clean freak. As such, he would not allow any Tom, Dick, or Harry to enter his room. However, that man seemed to have some matters to attend to at the company tomorrow. Perhaps she could take that opportunity to investigate. With that thought in mind, she drifted off into a deep slumber. … The next morning, another woman appeared in the living room of the Pierce Residence. Melissa wore a blue dress and her shoulder-length hair down, radiating an air of nobility and dignity from head to toe. She sat on the couch quietly. After half an hour, the tea in the porcelain cup in her hands had gone cold. “Has Madam Pierce awakened yet?” She could not wait to come over after receiving Yanice’s message and wanted to see for herself how a country bumpkin managed to obtain Linda’s favor. Donned in a tuxedo, Howard bowed and said, “Old Mrs. Pierce is not feeling well today, so the doctors have advised her to rest. I’m so sorry you can’t meet her as you decided to pay her a visit out of the blue. If it takes up your time, you may depart first.” “It’s alright. I’m free today. I don’t mind waiting.” Melissa smiled and placed her cup down. Every move she made was gentle, generous, and elegant. Noticing her stubbornness, he had no choice but to allow her to stay. In reality, Melissa came from a noble family. She was the daughter of the famous family in Hollander, the Langes, who ran a furniture business. Since young, she was proficient in everything from piano, chess, and calligraphy. Rumor had it that she was a ballet dance champion and a first-class violinist. Logically speaking, Linda should adore her. However, not only did she not like her, she sincerely despised her!

Ryan Fletcher stumbled in to report. The man stood with his back to him, his tall, slender figure exuding nobility. His fingers, with distinct joints, held a transparent glass, and his thin lips were as cold as a blade. Upon hearing the words 'countryside fortune teller,' a look of disgust quickly crossed his face. "Would you like to go to the hall and meet her?" "No need. She will be brought to me." The morning light cast a glow on the man's well-defined face, but it could not illuminate the darkness in his eyes.
