Clara looked at Melanie’s indifferent expression. She would be lying if she said she was not surprised.
Even Clara could see Eugene liked Melanie the first time he took her to meet her.
It was the first time Eugene took a woman home, and he was protective of her.
Stella and Cedric were not a loving couple, so Clara had watched Eugene grow up.
Clara remembered he was a carefree boy who cared about nothing. He did not dislike or like anything. All she was worried about was Eugene becoming a skeptic or an emotionless person when he grew up.
Everything changed when he asked her if he could bring a friend to meet her.
It shocked Clara. After all, she had never heard Eugene ask her anything like that.
She had not even thought the friend would be a woman. All she expected was his classmate, some male friend.
In some aspects, Eugene and Clara were more like mother and son. He even discussed it with her before deciding to take over LeapCo.
Clara had a deep impression of Melanie because of Stella.
Stella disliked women of ordinary family backgrounds because of Cedric. She was always mean to Melanie, but Eugene would always stop her.
The mother and son often quarreled, and things became nasty.
Clara was a witness to everything and knew Eugene wanted to protect Melanie.
However, she had not heard about things in Jepton after moving to the coast with her husband. She would occasionally hear Eugene mention Melanie on the phone.

“Madam Franklin.” Melanie’s voice snapped Clara out of her thoughts. Clara hid her expression well.
Melanie asked her formally, “Do you have any other requests? We’ll try to fulfill it as long as it’s reasonable and beneficial for both parties.”
Since Clara’s attention was diverted to work, she stopped thinking about Eugene’s matter.
Although Clara was Eugene’s godmother, she came with sincerity. The two had a happy business talk.
When the meeting ended, Clara extended an offer to Melanie, “Do you want to have dinner together?”
Melanie rejected it without thinking twice, “Please excuse me for rejecting. I have something on later.”

It was a call from Stephen. Melanie was still investigating Dylan’s matter and had asked Stephen to help her.
When she answered the call, Stephen said, “There’s some surveillance footage if you want to see it. However, I’ve asked a friend of mine who’s a lawyer. It’ll be hard to point out the suspect if it’s just the surveillance footage.
“We need to have a chat record or recorded conversation to sue the suspect.”
Recording the conversation was impossible. The witnesses were only Dylan and Peachie,
Dylan was still saying Viola did this for her and Melanie. Meanwhile, Peachie was a kid, and her words could not be used as evidence.
Melanie looked at the dark sky with a sigh.
Stephen asked her, “Mel, do you want to proceed?”
According to the situation, they could only get evidence of Viola contacting Dylan and Peachie. It was pointless.
Melanie stood at the roadside. The road was busy, and the neon lights lit the streets. It would be pointless to investigate it.
However, she was reluctant to give up.
After a while, Melanie looked at her fingers and said, “Sometimes, evidence isn’t about justice. It’s about karma.”
