“Bonnie might not be tired of lying, but I’m sick of it.” Vera thought.
Gresham grew agitated as he held Trina’s shoulders and asked, “Are you serious about Bonnie being Jane Austin?!”
Trina was frightened when she saw how angry her father was. Meanwhile, her mother was strangely silent and staring off into space.
Gresham shook his daughter and yelled, “Spill it, Trina!”
She felt like he was about to crush her shoulders. Trina said, “It’s true, Dad. Bonnie is none
other than Jane Austin!”
After hearing the indisputable truth, Gresham and Vera froze. The latter’s jaw almost hit the floor, and she could not find her voice. A moment later, she uttered, “Bonnie’s the wealthiest novelist in the world. How much do you think she makes yearly?”
Vera gulped and turned to her husband. She asked, “Do you think we should meet with her?”
“What will you do if we meet with her? Are you going to ask her for money?” Gresham asked, annoyed.
“Well…” Vera could not form a complete sentence even if she tried.
“What would people think of us if you did that? We’d look like people who disown their own when they’re useless and reclaim them once we consider them valuable.”
Vera’s expression grew increasingly pathetic.
Gresham sighed and added, “You’re her mother and should know how stubborn Bonnie is We were the ones who disowned her, too. We can all beg for her forgiveness, but she’ll never rejoin our family. Can you look past your pride and kneel before her?”
Vera was speechless.
“We might be related to Bonnie by blood, but we don’t have the fortune to be her family. Also, we signed the agreement and officially announced that we’ve cut off all ties with her. Vera, you might not care about our pride, but I do.”
“Although you say that, Bonnie is Jane Austin and the miracle doctor. If she rejoins our family, it will-”
Before Vera could finish, Gresham interjected, “Do you think she’ll rejoin our family?”

That was all it took to make Vera give up. She remained silent for a long while before saying, “Our agreement stipulates that we’ll always remain strangers to her. A stranger’s glory doesn’t concern us at all.”
Vera said that to comfort herself, but she regretted disowning Bonnie.
Three days later, Bonnie left her house and saw Ivor’s car at the entrance. She knew he had not failed to send her to school, no matter what. As the morning sun shined on her in the passenger seat, she noticed Ivor monitoring her every move. She asked, “Is there something on your mind?”
Ivor asked back, “Are you free this afternoon?”
Bonnie’s eyes widened as she thought, ‘Did he find out I’ll be shooting a scene with Orpheus this afternoon?”
Ivor casually added, “It’s nothing major. I’m just trying to make conversation.”
“Oh, I see.”
If Ivor would not say anything, neither would Bonnie. When she reached the campus, Orpheus texted her, “I’ll see you two in the afternoon, Bonwick!”
She replied, “okay, got it.”
