The situation turning into such a mess, Flona never saw it coming and was totally drained.
Watching Nathan and Hanna obviously taking sides, Fiona felt defeated and h
helpless.
With outsiders around, chiming in with their two cents, Fiona couldn’t well carry on with her anger, and her fury slowly faded.
Remington, what are you waiting for? Take Evelina to the sickbay, stat! Get a doctor to check her out pronto, before things really hit the
fan.”
Hanna urged, especially worried as Evelina seemed too weak to even open her eyes.
After all, the bun in Evelina’s oven was her last hope for her sickly son.
Nathan added in a stem voice, “Quit making a spectacle of yourself here, get her out of here quick.”
Just as Remington was about to make a move, Fiona suddenly piped up, “Wait!”
Everyone turned to Fiona, but she looked away, focusing on Lizetta, who had been edged out of the picture.
She pulled Lizetta back by her side, and then tumed to address Evelina in Remington’s arms.
“I may be getting on in years, and maybe nobody listens to me anymore, but I haven’t lost my marbles yet. I won’t let some murky lineage muddle into the Dashiell family! Ms. Hawthorne, since you insist the child is Remington’s, let’s have an amnio and do a paternity test.”
Fiona wasn’t pushing for an abortion anymore, but she was set on Evelina getting an amniocentesis.
Evelina’s face flickered with panic, which quickly gave way to a hurt, stuttering protest.
“Fiona, what kind of person do you think I am, why must you humiliate me like this?”
Lizetta hadn’t expected Fiona to suddenly bring up a paternity test.
The child wasn’t Remington’s to begin with, so of course, Evelina dared not go through with it.
A paternity test was something Nathan and Hanna wouldn’t obstruct; they’d probably be thrilled.
You’ve got to hand it to her; experience does come with age.
Lizetta couldn’t help but steal a glance at Fiona, as Fiona gave her a comforting pat on the hand.
Then, Fiona’s face fell again, and she looked at Evelina with a scowl of disgust.

“All this crying and wailing, such bad vibes! Weren’t you adamant the kid is Remington’s? Why the cold feet now?”
Hanna too wanted Evelina to take the test to confirm the child was really Remington’s.
She was thinking of asking the doctor if the amnio could also check for a match with Joseph.
At her words, she immediately said to Evelina, “Don’t worry, Eve, amniocentesis is a piece of cake, we’ll get you the best doc. Once the paternity is confirmed, nobody can touch that kid.”
Nathan also spoke up with authority, “In that case, let’s roll her into the OR.”
How could Evelina possibly go for an amniocentesis?

She clutched at Remington’s sleeve, sobbing, “Remi, I can’t, I’m scared it’ll hurt, my belly hurts so much right now! I’m dizzy and nauseous, I nearly miscarried a few days ago, what if I miscarry on the spot if we do this? I’m terrified.”
Hearing her talk about a near miscarriage made Hanna hesitate, looking to Fiona for guidance.
“Mom, maybe we should just wait?”
But Fiona wasn’t so easily fooled, interrupting Hanna firmly.
“Whether or not she miscarries is for the doctor to decide. If she’s really not up for the procedure, the doctor will call it off! Dr. Lynn, you
handle this.”
Dr. Lynn, an authority in obstetrics, stepped forward at the mention of her name.
“Don’t worry, ma’am, I’ll ensure Ms. Hawthorne’s safety.”
At this point, Evelina’s worry was futile, tears streaming as she looked to Remington.
Lizetta also watched Remington, not without a hint of schadenfreude.
Now that it had come to this, she wanted to see how Remington would continue to coddle and protect Evelina.
“Remington, you should just hand Ms. Hawthorne over to the doctor, don’t make your grandma angry again.”
Barbara, Remington’s godmother, also chimed in with advice.

Remington turned to Barbara, and even though she was blind and couldn’t see, he nodded gently and said, “Alright” Remington then placed Evelina on a gumey and signaled the nurse to come forward and wheel her away.
