Because of all this, Remington felt a sense of guilt towards Evelina.

Barbara couldn’t afford any more surprises because of this child
And Quinn, who had lived honorably, would have his memory tamished by the scandalous circumstances surrounding Evelina’s child.

Lizetta hadn’t realized Barbara was in the late stages of lung cancer, recalling how frail and aged she appeared last time they met, even needing a wheelchair

Now Lizetta understood, but she felt Remington could have shared this with her privately, trusting she wouldn’t spread the word.
She couldn’t shake off the feeling that Remington was still keeping something from her, a slight unease settling in her heart
