Chapter 82
Katerina:
“Where are you going?” I asked, smiling at my little ones as they entered the house from their daycare.
Normally, I would be the one to pick them up, but with the number of things that I had to do, I knew that it was a little harder to do so. But I knew that they were in safe hands when they were coming back anyway.
Andrew’s eyes met mine and he smiled, wrapping his arms around me as he hugged me. I hugged him back, smiling at my little one, and I couldn’t help but find myself smiling. I knew that things were going to brighten for us. I knew that we were going to be happier from here.
“Mama, look! I found a pretty flower. I got it for you!” Bianca said, handing it to me. I smiled and took the flower from her, putting it behind my ear as if it were a broche. She smiled and I wrapped my arms around my little one, hugging her tightly.
“Is daddy home?” Andrew asked, making my stomach churn. They were used to him not being around by now, I knew that, but it still pained me whenever they asked about him.
“No, baby. But things are going to be different now. You are going to be seeing daddy a lot more often, and you are going to be around him and him around you more than now.” I said, and Andrew’s eyes lit up.
“Are we going to be playing games with papa?” Bianca asked, and I smiled.
“You are going to do everything that you want with your father. All you are going to do is ask him, and I don’t think that he is going to tell you no. But when you see him, I want you to be good, okay? Just like when mama is with you, I want you to always be good, okay, baby?” I asked them both. I knew that neither one of them understood what I was going at. They were still too young to do so, but I knew to try explaining it in the most gentle possible
way.
“And you are going to play with us always, right, mama?” Andrew asked, and I nodded.
“You know that I am always going to want to play with you. I will run with you, and the two of us are going to be happy, always.” I said, and he smiled, clapping his hands to me. I smiled and nodded, watching as he took a step back before rushing to his sister to play. This peace was going to be one that I wanted to last, I knew that for fact. I needed it to last, and I didn’t want this divorce to be affecting us. This was the last thing that I wanted. And I knew that Nikolay was going to play with that fire.
“You are going to need to get something to eat, baby. Go and change your clothes first then come down to the dining table.” I said, and both kids nodded as they ran to their bedroom. I nodded at their maids to go and get them ready, and they nodded just as my phone rang. My heart raced against my chest, and for a moment, I feared that it
would be Nikolay. However, it wasn’t, it was Viktor.
“You seem to be calling a little more often,” I said, raising an amused eyebrow despite him not being able to see

“His lawyer called and has been arranging for meetings. It seems to me that things are going to be a little more intense, and we are going to need to pull our strings to ensure that he doesn’t end up doing something stupid to hurt you or the kids. And you are going to listen to me very carefully, Katerina, because he is going to press on you with that matter,” he said, making me frown in confusion.
“What are you talking about, Viktor?” I asked, frowning in confusion as I tried to process what the man was telling me. I stood from the floor where I was initially sitting in front of my children.
My heart was racing against my chest and I waited, not knowing what I was going to hear from the man. I put a hand on my chest, and the man was quiet, clearly finding the right way to give me the information.
“He is going to try to take the kids from me, isn’t he?” I asked, watching as the man stayed quiet.
“Katerina, I think that you are going to need to come to see me in the office. This is not something that I want to tell you over the phone.” He said, and my heart raced against my chest. I wrapped an arm around myself, not knowing what I was going to go through.
“Viktor, whatever it is, you are going to tell me on this phone. I understand that you might be worried…”
“Believe me, Katerina, talking about it over the phone is only going to anger you more. And I am going to need to
! look you in the eye to be able to voice out what you are going to dread hearing. Even I don’t want to be putting you in such pain, but this is something…”
“You know something that I don’t, and I think that you might have already known…”
“I didn’t know, until the documents were sent to me, Katerina, didn’t know because you didn’t tell me. I had no means of knowing and this is going to make this war a lot harder for the two of us.” He said, making my heart drop to my stomach.
“What are you talking about? What documents?” I asked, and he sighed.
“You signed the custody to Nikolay when the kids were born, Katerina.” He said, making my eyes widen. “And he is going to use that against you to take the kids by force tomorrow, and trust me, you are not going to want to resist. If you do they are going to be sure that they make you regret it, Katerina. And you don’t want to end up regretting
it…”
